WORLD BICYCLE DAY: FRSC trains school children about safety on road

The Idiroko Unit Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has taken public enlightenment on Importance of safety while using the road to St. John Secondary School in Idiroko area of Ogun State.

The Unit Commander, ACC  Akinwunmi Olaluwoye, said the exercise was to create safety awareness in the students on the occasion of 3rd United Nations Bicycle Day.

Olaluwoye urged the Federal Government to embrace the use of bicycle as a mean of transportation as it enhances good health and prevent diseases.

“The uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, cannot be overemphasized as two countries adopted it as a simple means of transportation, fostering environmental stewardship and health,” he said.

He said that the use of the bicycle served as a means of fostering sustainable development, strengthening education which includes; physical education for children and young people, promoting health, among others.

He added that this could also prevent diseases, promote tolerance, mutual understanding, respect and facilitate social inclusion and a culture of peace.

Olaluwoye advised students to be safety conscious wherever they are to ensure safety of their lives and property while the school management should to adhere strictly to COVID-19 protocols.

In earlier remarks, Mr Akindele Adewale, the Proprietor of St. John Secondary School, commended the Unit Commander and staff of RS2. 26 Idiroko Unit Command for the wonderful lecture delivered.

Adewale, urged the Corps to sustain more Public Enlightenment on non- motorized transportation to government to develop or modify the existing policies.

He appealed to government to redouble its efforts towards providing road infrastructures and other system, to make cycling safe and attractive in the state.
