WORLD CYCLING DAY: FRSC urges Nigerians to Promote Non Motorized Movement

In Commemoration of the 2021World Bicycle day, with the theme : Cycling For A Healthy Lifestyle." Sector Commander, Kwara State Sector Command of Federal Road safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Jonathan Owoade has urged Nigerians to embrace the use of bicycle as means of transportation.

Owoade led a convoy of riders and staff of the Command on a visit to the Nigerian Television Authority, Fate road, Ilorin on Thursday 3rd June, 2021.

He was received by the General manager who was ably represented by Mrs Iyabode Olorunshola and the Permanent secretary, Kwara state ministry of works, Mr Olorukooba Yinka.

The essence of the visit was to sensitize the public on the significance of the day. He said the first week of June every year is set aside by United Nations General Assembly to celebrate and create awareness  on the advantages of non motorized means of transportation.  While addressing the press,the Sector Commander said advantages of riding bicycle include , means of exercise  to reduce  health issues,  improvement of mental ability.  

He added that other advantages apart from reduced transportation costs are, reduction of gas emission which is a great danger to climate change  and as well drastically eliminate traffic gridlock withing the urban areas, reduction of Road traffic Crash and prevent loss of man hours translating to viable economic use.

He therefore urged the general public to embrace Cycling  and call on the state ministry of works to consider the need to  designate bicycle route in  road design and  construction as means of promoting cycling in the State.
