The Sector Commander of Rivers State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) CC Salisu Umar Galadunci, on Thursday, April 28, 2021, invited to the state's Government House at the instance of First Lady, Her Excellency Justice Suzzette Nyesom Wike, to discuss and enlighten the public on the impact of 6th United Nations Global Road Safety Week in a programme initiated by the Governor's wife, tagged "RivEthics; a Character Building Initiative Program aimed at remodelling the society through social awareness creation."

The Sector Commander at the radio station located inside the Government House was given the opportunity to speak both in English and Pidgin languages for a period of twenty minutes each. On each segment he spoke extensively and eloquently on the slogan that the UN chose for this year's forthcoming campaign " Streets For Life" with a view to ensuring motorists ply urban and built up roads at a speed of 30KPH.

The Sector Commander further stated that the UN Global Road Safety activity  brings together individuals,  Government Agencies, NGOs, corporate  organizations etc around the world to create changes that can reduce the menace of deaths as a result of road traffic  and injuries. Though the official date for the commencement of week was yet to kick start, because of the First Lady's keen interest in this regard , that the Secotr Commander says it becomes imperative he grant Her Excellency's request to educate the public about it.

The Sector Commander did not leave the studio without availing himself the opportunity to enlighten the motoring public on the dangers of driving without driver licence coupled with vehicle documents. He warned that the Command is waging war against unlicenced drivers. On the issue of using old and expired number plate, he drew the attention of the public of the security risks involved given the prevailing security situation, if any vehicle is used or stolen for criminal reasons, it will be difficult to track it down. Hence he informed that there is availability of new number plates , he urged everyone to go purchase new one.

In another development, he informed the  public of that FRSC has received alert from EU through the Federal Government of some 10,000  Opel Ampera cars produced between 2017 to 2019 but manufactured with defective brakes.  The Federal Government mandated FRSC to impound at sight any of such vehicle seeing on roads or at dealer parks, thus this enliggtenment programs from Her Excellent could not have come at better time than now to warn anyone who has such vehlcle in their fleet to as matter of life and death discard them or be returned.

He could not conclude the recording without appreciating the developmental projects of His Excellency Governor Nyesom Wike for massive roads and bridges construction part of his urban renewal projects, and the transportation transforming initiative of the Ministry of Transport that will help boost modern transportation that can be best compared to modern IT driven system.

The recorded program is billed to be aired five radio stations in Port Harcourt on 8th and 9th May 2021.
