GOV. UDOM EMMANUEL: Making Akwa Ibom Safe For Investors

By EMMANUEL U. UMANAH --- Governor Udom Emmanuel's administration's desire to diversify the state's economy and attract foreign direct investment in the face of the current economic challenges has made a closer collaboration even more imperative.

The Governor has continued to invest heavily in all areas including security, infrastructural development, environmental improvement, expansion and regularisation of social services, etc, we believe would help sustain a conducive environment for business investments to thrive in the state

Recently the  Nigerian Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for the good level of security and peaceful co-existence in Akwa Ibom State. Gen Attahiru congratulated Mr. Emmanuel for securing approval of a new Oil and Gas Free Zone in Akwa Ibom State.

He also said the Governor's efforts in making Akwa Ibom safe are a reflection of his priorities in making the state investment hub. The state's oil-free zone is the biggest in West Africa, "...and when completed, will in no doubt boost the economy of the state and the country at large" governor Udom said.

The workaholic Governor routinely moves in and out of the state and other parts of the world are all in the bid to attract more developmental projects to our dear state.

Some of these are to help reduce poverty, unemployment, and restiveness, as well as bolstering food security in the state. Many workable and plausible Memoranda of Understanding ( MoUs), between Akwa Ibom State Government and many private investors, are to come in and invest more in the state, as well as many other renowned International Organizations.

Any right thinking indigene of Akwa Ibom State State or even an avid observer of the colossal completion agenda that has been going on in different sectors in Akwa Ibom State from 2015 to date, cannot, but vehemently commend and support Governor Udom Emmanuel's quest for formidable development of the State.

Gov. Emmanuel, having realized that a good welfare policy provides better physical and mental health to the workers and thus, promotes a healthy work environment, the Akwa Ibom State was one of the first few elite states in Nigeria that implemented the new National Minimum Wage of N30,000. Even with the lean revenue resources of the state. The courageous gesture by Governor Udom has no doubt cemented the cordial relationship between the organized labor (NLC), with the State Government, thus, sustainable industrial harmony thrives in the state.

It is also on records that the Akwa Ibom State Government did not go to any bank to borrow money to pay the salaries of workers. We all know the implication of borrowing or incurring debts to our economy, especially, if the resources are not managed prudently by any incoming Government. Posterity will bear the brunt. Times like this call for mutual understanding, prudence, and self-discipline and we must all agree to the necessity to prioritize state expenditures to areas that can best uplift our state from poverty. Let us all join hands to support and cooperate with this present Administration to move Akwa Ibom State to greater heights under the leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
