Driver Burnt To Death In Ogun Tanker Explosion

Tragedy occurred on today - Friday, in Atoyo area of Ogun State when an unidentified truck driver roasted to death in a tanker explosion occourred at about 10.45 am in Ijebu-Ode, along Ijebu-Ode/Benin Expressway.



The ugly incident, according to eyewitnesses, the victim who was the only occupant of the Diesel-laden tanker was driving on high speed when it lost control and fell on its side spilled its content which rapidly spread across the neighborhood before if finally caught fire.

The fire INFORMATION CARRIER gathered was said to have erupted before the rescue effort could commence.

Another eyewitness said unfortunately for the victim, he was caught up in the inferno and was burnt to ashes, “the incident was caused by overspeeding on the part of the driver,” he added.

The incident affected the free flow of traffic in the axis before the rescue operation was completed by the state firefighters, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Police and Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).

Confirming the incident, TRACE Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi said the ugly incident was caused by reckless and excess speed.

He warned articulated vehicle's drivers to always drive cautiously and shun excess speed while on wheels.

"The drivers of articulated vehicles especially tanker drivers should avoid excessive speed, drunk driving and have adequate rest before embarking on any journey in view of its attendant consequence."
